From The Stage To A Duet: Gil Yisraelov & Yishai Lapidot – “Bati Hayom”
After dozens of joint performances in Israel and abroad, Gil Yisraelov and Yishai Lapidot have teamed up for a duet, releasing a new version of the song “Bati Hayom.” Yisraelov brings his signature Mediterranean vocal flourishes and tone, while Lapidot contributes the style of “Jewish Pop” with which he is so closely identified. The song takes on a new dimension through the interplay of their two voices, featuring a warm sound shaped by the arrangement and musical production of Yuval Ben David.
The two first crossed paths during their time in the Mo’etzet HaShira HaYehudit, a connection that has endured over the years through joint performances and a close personal friendship. It was from this bond that the idea for a duet emerged. For Yisraelov, this cover represents a poignant “coming full circle”—a song he cherished as a teenager in yeshiva is now performed in his own voice, alongside Lapidot. Lapidot, who wrote both the lyrics and the melody, originally performed the song on the album Oif Simchas & Friends.
“Wiping away the tears, bringing sweetness to your day,” sing Yisraelov and Lapidot, expressing a longing for better times amidst a period marked by tension and discord. The blessing woven into the song—”Blessed are you by Hashem”—ties everything together into a simple, profound message: Ahavat Yisrael, love for one’s fellow Jew.
