Eileh Varechev | אלה ברכב – Benzion & Luzy Klatzko
Psalms 20:8-10 captures the eternal truth that while nations rise with their chariots and armies, seeking to destroy Israel, they inevitably fall, while the Jewish people endure through their trust in God. From the Egyptians who enslaved the Israelites to the Babylonians who destroyed the First Temple, from the Greeks who sought to extinguish Jewish faith to the Romans who exiled and scattered the nation, each empire that sought to annihilate the Jewish people has been relegated to the dustbin of history. The Crusaders marched with crosses yet massacred Jewish communities; the Spanish Inquisition expelled and tormented, leaving Spain bereft of its thriving Jewish population. Pogroms under Russian tsars aimed to crush the spirit of Jewish life, and Nazi Germany, armed with modern machinery of war, sought the Final Solution but fell to ruin. In modern times, groups like Hamas and Hezbollah, and even entire regimes, declare their intent to destroy Israel, but they too are met with failure. Meanwhile, the Jewish people, trusting in prayer and God’s salvation, have outlasted their enemies, building vibrant communities and a thriving homeland. These verses from Psalms resound through history, a testament to the enduring power of faith and the divine promise of survival and redemption.
