Yonah Friedman With His Debut EP – Morid HaTal

Yonah Friedman is an upcoming musician, originally from Memphis, TN, currently living in Yerushalayim. Yonah’s music has been inspired by a vast amount of music spanning all genres but mainly inspired by Rav Shlomo Carlebach. The music combines chassidic/folk music with high class musical quality. Over the last five years, Yonah has made a name for himself playing at weddings, sheva brachot, kumsitzs and everything else under the sun.”

The upcoming EP, “Morid HaTal“, consists of four new original songs and niggunim composed by Yonah himself. The first track, “Ki Lo Naeh” is taken from the piyut at the end of the haggada. The song has a very relaxed, laid back feel to it, recreating that feeling of singing at four o’clock in the morning after a very long seder. Except now, there is a gevaldik niggun to those words that really livens things up. The second song, “Od Yishama” has already become popular in Eretz Yisrael. Its soaring melody will make you want to come back over and over and even once you stop listening, the song will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day. “Eimatai” is a very powerful, raw emotion composition. It really brings out the soul-searching that should come along with every recital of this thought provoking mishna. Finally, “Melaveh Malka Niggun” is the best way to transition from a heilege shabbos to the week. What better way to start out the week than with a fun upbeat, niggun that will help you transition into your week?
Overall, these four songs will give the listener something to enjoy even if your headphones are not in your ears. The niggunim are super catchy and easy to learn and will very quickly become part of your Jewish music experience.
