Rabbi Klatzko took a group of students to the Auschwitz Death Camp to remember and learn from the tragedy of the Holocaust. Upon exiting the camp, Rabbi Klatzko met the Yeshivas Maarava of Rabbi Baruch Chait. Rabbi Klatzko was asked to share a few words with the bachurim. Rather than grasping for words where there are none, Rabbi Klatzko chose to teach them a new song he had recently composed. Immediately, the bachurim picked it up and in a matter of moments, the entire Yeshiva was swaying in a circle, arm in arm, singing the song, “Avi” with great emotion.

We see atrocities and say, “Why have You abandoned me?” However, on second thought, we say to ourselves “Why have we abandoned You, our Creator, our Father.” We respond, that we will return to You, our Father, insisting on declaring that You are our Creator, Avi Avi Avi. The song ends with the recognition that Hashem’s love for us is eternal and we ache for that love now and forever.
