Behind the Scenes – Off the Record – Baruch Levine
Dear Friends,
I am often asked what music I personally listen to when I am alone, or on long trips in the car. Truthfully, I enjoy the quiet time, but when I do listen to music I almost always choose to listen to “oldies”. Each song that I listen to brings me right back to that specific era of time. I can vividly recall where I was and the specific feeling and inspiration that I got at that moment.
I encourage my children to listen to the music that I grew up on and it has now become their favorites too! I have a feeling that although our generation is speeding fast into the future we also find ourselves longing for the past more than ever before.
What was it about those days that we want to run backwards-towards (if that makes any sense)? Deep down we know the answer. While we are always looking for something new and fresh, the true hischadshus that we seek is already inside of us. The music of the good old days awakens something in us that inspires us to renew…..ourselves. When we listen we feel connected, inspired, and more at peace. That is why it doesn’t cease to talk to us even after all these years. Open your hearts and join me as we journey back and reconnect to some real Jewish music!
