8th Day Rocks Kansas City on Lag B’omer
By Daniel Craig
On Sunday May 22, hundreds gathered in Kansas City for the Torah Learning Center’s first annual Lag B’omer Concert featuring 8th Day. The concert was thoroughly enjoyed by young and old alike as brothers Shmuly (lead singer) & Bentzi (lead guitarist) Marcus entertained the crowd with a lively repertoire that included a mixture of “Yiddish Country,” “Chassidic Blues,” and “Rabbi Reggae.” Children danced in the isles while parents, bubbies and zaydies clapped along with the music. “8th Day is unique in their ability to entertain wide audiences of all ages and backgrounds,” said concert coordinator Rabbi Simcha Morgenstern, “they’ve proven themselves again here in KC.” The children, led by Rabbi Morgenstern, stormed the stage when the band played their hit song “Ya’alili” from their latest album Chasing Prophecy. Afterward, participants were able to meet the band and get autographed CD’s while they enjoyed a splendid buffet reception by Steve Ellenberg of Bagel Works. Rabbi Benzion Friedman, director of TLC, was very happy with the turnout. “This is a first for KC,” he said, “and definitely just the beginning.”
