Six13 – The Red Sea Shanty: A Pirate Passover
Ahoy vey—it’s Passover on the high seas, mates! As it turns out, the Jewish holidays are not immune to the sea shanty craze.
Fresh off of the runaway success of Tiktok phenomenon Nathan Evans, Youtube-famous Jewish vocal group Six13 (perhaps best known for their hit “Bohemian Chanukah”) couldn’t help but dive right in. Their new single and video, “The Red Sea Shanty: A Pirate Passover“, is already going viral as well.
And they weren’t content to stop at just “The Wellerman”. (Shanties make for surprisingly good horas!) This video is packed with fun surprises—not the least of which is that all of this music is made with nothing but the human voice!
“I think what I really love about this one,” says vocalist Mordy Weinstein, “is that it does such a great job of conveying the kind of contagious energy we like to bring to the stage, and that we feel every day just from the pride of living Jewish lives.”
So come drop anchor, grab some matzah, and join in with Six13 and a hearty round of 19th century nautical work songs… what better way for Jews to celebrate our freedom?
Anchored by a strong Jewish identity and driven by a mission to connect Jews around the globe with their heritage through music, professional Jewish a cappella group Six13 are the originators of today’s Jewish a cappella sound. They’ve performed to rave reviews at the White House for Barack and Michelle Obama, and millions more at synagogues, religious schools, JCCs, fundraising events, B’nai Mitzvah and private affairs alike, received numerous awards for their eight best-selling CDs, and been selected as finalists for casting in NBC’s “The Sing-Off”.
