An audience of more than 1,100 rocked out to the Maccabeats, the Moshav Band and Matisyahu at Yeshiva University’s annual Chanukah Concert on Thursday, Dec. 2. The concert, which sold out days in advance, was organized by the undergraduate student councils and drew music fans from across the tri-state area to the Wilf Campus, including families with children and students from other colleges. From the Maccabeats’ opening act to Matisyahu’s last encore, the crowd got on their feet and stayed there.
Highlights included a captivating rendition of the Moshav Band’s homeland anthem “Come Back,” which had every row in the audience swaying, arms linked and eyes closed; Matisyahu’s classic “One Day” and “Jerusalem”, in addition to a new Chanukah single, “Miracle”, which he performed live for the first time to screams and cheers; and YU’s own Maccabeats singing “ Candlelight,” the song which has garnered over 2 million views on YouTube and propelled the group into the limelight.
Proceeds from the concert will go to Kids of Courage, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults with life-threatening illnesses.
