From The EP: Sarel Sofer With A New Song – Cholat Ahavah
Following the release of the first installment of his new EP project, singer Sarel Sofer continues to unveil further segments of this musical work, now releasing Cholat Ahavah, the second single from a three-track EP.
This new song transports the listener to one of the deepest and most moving realms within the world of spirituality and faith: love for the Creator. Through a unique synthesis of the Rambam’s teachings, verses from Shir Hashirim, and an original melody, Sofer succeeds in imbuing the concept of love with a renewed musical significance.
The lyrics incorporate Maimonides’ words from the Hilchot Teshuvah, which describe the proper love one should have for the Almighty: “that one should love Hashem with a love that is great, exceeding, abundant, and exceedingly intense”—alongside the well-known verse from Shir Hashirim: “Ki Cholas Ahava Ani.”
The choice of these specific words is no coincidence. Love is one of the most significant forces in a person’s life, directed toward family, friends, and those closest to us. Yet, above all stands, the love for the Creator is a profound, unconditional love, one that connects the soul and lends meaning to every step taken in life. Cholat Ahava seeks to take this concept a step further, reminding listeners of the yearning, connection, and longing for Hashem, using ancient words imbued with spiritual power that still resonate in the heart today.
