Shaya Lexier & Yosef Gestetner In A Moving Ballad “Hinei”
I wrote Hinei at the yahrtzeit of a close friend, Reb Nosson ben Reb Shimon. What emerged felt like a gift from Heaven.
The message behind the song is found in the words themselves: “Anywhere I walk, You go. You are my shadow.” Hashem never sleeps nor slumbers. He is the Guardian of Israel, present with us in every moment. Through every challenge, triumph, question, and step forward, He is there. He’ll never leave us.
At times, life’s struggles and tests can make a person feel forgotten or alone, chas v’shalom. In moments of pain or uncertainty, it may seem as though Hashem is distant. But the truth is just the opposite. It is specifically through such moments that He is carries us, shapes us, and draws us closer to Him, and closer to who we are meant to become.
The journey doesn’t “lead” us to growth, the journey “is” the growth. Every challenge, detour, and setback carries within it an opportunity to discover strengths we never knew we possessed.
We’re never abandoned, and we’re never on our own. Hashem is with us in every step we take, every tear we shed, every prayer we whisper, and every dream we dare to hold onto.
I was privileged to have Yosef Gestetner, a fellow Torontonian, childhood neighbour, and dear friend, join me on this song. His voice and heart really bring this message to life, and I hope it rings through to all who hear it.
It is my hope and prayer that Hinei inspires Yidden around the world to strengthen their bitachon, deepen their faith in Hashem, and find comfort in knowing that no matter where life takes them, they never walk alone.
As the song goes:
“I know that I’m never alone, anywhere I walk You go.”
