Most people know Shlomo Katz as the one responsible for revealing some of the hidden Niggunim of R’ Shlomo Carlebach, which he has also recorded over the course of years. The major ones are Niggun Neshama, Borei Olam, and K’Shoshana. However, his musical talent began in his father’s house. While he was still a young man in his parents’ house, he was already composing a number of Niggunim, which he even recorded in a few albums.

Many of his songs became part of standard use, some of which people don’t even really know about. For example, Niggun Nevo, Vehakohanim, Kevodo, Shema Koleinu, Shabbos Koidesh, which already have a special place in the treasure chest of Jewish music. A good number of these songs were recorded anew on his live performance album in Melbourne, Australia.

About two years ago, he decided that he would like to produce a brand new album of completely his own niggunim, and the path towards that goal began on a long journey to a concert in South Africa. He then connected with the pair of producers Nadav Bachar and Oren Tzur, and after two years of hard work, they reached a final product.

The new album, Yismach Melech, was very recently released, with ten deep and sweet tracks on it. “It was very important to me to use the name Yismach Melech for the album title, because that is the tefillah that is frequently in my mouth lately, that when The King looks at us, He is simply happy,” explained Shlomo.

Singer Yonatan Razel joined Shlomo for a guest duet with Shlomo on the song Libi U’Besari. Two special songs on the album are Niggun of the Birds and Regah Shel Anava. Meheira will accompany many Chassanim and Kallahs, and anybody who wants to get ready for Purim will enjoy the upbeat song Shoshanas Yaakov.
