{"id":55243,"date":"2022-03-16T16:15:00","date_gmt":"2022-03-16T21:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thejewishinsights.com\/wp\/?p=55243"},"modified":"2022-03-16T16:15:00","modified_gmt":"2022-03-16T21:15:00","slug":"encanto-purim-maccabeats-talk-haman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thejewishinsights.com\/wp\/encanto-purim-maccabeats-talk-haman\/","title":{"rendered":"An Encanto Purim &#8211; The Maccabeats (We Don&#8217;t Talk About Haman)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This year&#8217;s Purim video is an homage to this past season&#8217;s smash Disney musical, <strong>Encanto<\/strong>. <strong>Encanto<\/strong> and the Purim story share several themes: complicated family dynamics; a people fighting for their survival; coming together in the name of a higher power; and &#8211; of course &#8211; a character about whom we don\u2019t want to talk. And despite the constant interruptions of groggers (noisemakers), we manage to spend most of the Purim story &#8211; and our song, &#8220;We Don&#8217;t Talk About Haman&#8221; &#8211; recounting the evil scheming of that that very figure. <\/p>\n<p>But this year\u2019s Purim video doesn\u2019t just recount Haman\u2019s dastardly deeds. It also celebrates the bravery and selflessness of our heroine, Esther. Esther, who proudly asserted her identity when it mattered most. Esther, who conquered self-doubt and confronted the king to declare her people\u2019s right to exist. Esther, who gave her name to the megillah (scroll) traditionally chanted every year on Purim. <\/p>\n<p>We hope you enjoy this year\u2019s Purim video, our first Purim video in over a decade.
