L\u2019dor Vador, the first single off Choni G\u2019s soon to be released album, is a fresh take on one of the world\u2019s best loved traditional Jewish choral ballads.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Choni Goldman<\/strong>, aka Choni G<\/strong>, the fresh-faced \u2018pop\u2019 chazan of the historic Cape Town Hebrew Congregation<\/strong>, or Gardens Shul (the city\u2019s oldest and most famous synagogue), is known for gooseflesh-inducing renditions of ancient Jewish prayers and melodies. His latest single, a contemporary remix of L\u2019dor Vador<\/strong>, is no exception. <\/p>\n

The popular ballad by American cantor and composer of contemporary Jewish liturgical music, Meir Finkelstein<\/strong>, speaks to Jewish continuity through the ages, and the passing on of traditions from generation to generation. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a moving modern choral song that\u2019s popular in synagogues around the world and with our congregation. I performed it at a very special havdalah concert at a bar mitzvah recently and the vibe was so electric, I was inspired to record a version for the album, even though I\u2019d already completed the song selection\u201d says Choni<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Choni<\/strong>\u2019s debut album – \u20185780<\/strong>\u2019 – is scheduled for release in December this year. The 16-track album showcases his distinctive sound: uplifting and emotive melodies that have their roots in Jewish spirituality, yet resonate with audiences from all walks of life.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe album also features a mix of dance, hip hop beats and a lot of soul. Some tracks are originals and some are reimagined classics, but there\u2019s an African thread throughout\u201d says Choni<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

A household name in the South African Jewish community, Choni<\/strong> has performed at events around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up in a synagogue with a strong chazan and choir, which made a big impact on me and continues to influence my music. You could say that I\u2019m remixing my childhood memories\u201d says Choni<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
