The Tzitzit In The Operating Room That Inspired A Song: Yisrael Goldreich Releases A New Version of “K’nesher”

At the age of seven and a half, following a fall that resulted in a complex fracture, Yisrael Goldreich was rushed to Rambam Hospital for emergency surgery. Just before anesthesia, he insisted to the medical team, “I am not taking off my tzitzit. They are my protection.” This courageous stance led to a compromise—rolling the tzitzit upward—which became a standard practice throughout a series of complex surgeries. During his recovery, his father played him the classic song “K’nesher” by the late Rabbi Moshe Goldman. The song became an anchor and the soundtrack of his life.

Now, in celebration of his Bar Mitzvah, Yisrael has come full circle, releasing a high-production rendition of the piece. The production is helmed by Michael Tzi, with arrangements by David Fink, vocals by the “Malchut” choir conducted by Pinchas Bichler, and a team of top-tier musicians. “This song gives me strength,” Yisrael shares. “I feel that everything happens for the best, and I am grateful to the Creator, my parents, my teachers, and everyone who has supported me along the journey—from rehabilitation to the stage.”
