Shay Viner, the “Prince of Wonder” of faith music and someone who frequently makes it to the top of the Jewish music charts, continues to release impressive performances. Alongside original and new singles, he releases another live performance, this time with Avremi Roth, of the song Shema Beni, originally performed by Mordechai Ben David. Shay, has already performed the song with the great mentor MBD, and now also with Avremi Roth. The special series was recorded and filmed within the walls of the Great Synagogue in Jerusalem.

Shema Beni” is undoubtedly one of the unforgettable moments in the career of Mordechai Ben David (MBD). A song that over the years has become one of the most beloved and sung in every Jewish home, based on the words of the Ramban. In the famous letter he wrote to his son, the pearl of wisdom opens with the verse “Shemah Beni Musar Avicha, and do not forsake the law of your mother,” and continues with guidance for generations: “Always behave in a way that speaks all your words calmly to every person and at all times.” The moving melody by Rabbi Baruch Chait has turned the ancient words into an anthem for fathers in all corners of the world.

Ahead of the holiday of Matan Torah, days when the Jewish people prepare to receive the Torah anew and strengthen the connection between the generations, two unusual voices meet: Avremi Roth, one of the most senior Chassidic singers in Israel and around the world, and Shay Viner, from the younger generation of faithful singers. Roth’s deep and mature voice meets Wiener’s young and enthusiastic voice, and together they give the old song new life. Not a dusty performance from the archive, but a living, breathing transmission of a tradition from father to son.

After “Yavo Shalom“, “Ten Li” and “KisheHalev Boche” which established Shay Viner‘s status as a shining voice in the landscape of religious music, Viner adds another layer to his unique musical language: a collaboration that connects generations, styles and Batei Midrash, from the same simple truth that accompanies all of his work. There are songs that should not be allowed to remain in the archive.
