Yehuda Ner How the song “Al Tadun” was born.
My story: I am a yeshiva student. One day the head yeshiva tells me that tomorrow a new guy from a certain Chassidic sect will arrive. He will arrive wearing the clothes of that Chassidus. The head of the yeshiva asked to receive that guy and respect him for who he is. I was unable to because I liked the Chassidim of the new guy less. I said that if he comes from there he must be like this and that, and I will not tolerate him. Suddenly, I thought to myself that I have never even seen the new guy. I don’t know what he looks like, how he behaves, or how he lives. He only comes to the yeshiva tomorrow, so why am I judging him just because he comes from a certain Chassidus.
Here I got a different meaning to life and started writing the song “Al Tadun“!
The song begins with the teachings of Chassidus. The Sfas Emes says not to judge your friend until you reach his place because you won’t reach his place.
With this song I fight every day not to judge a person because of their clothing or opinion or action, to simply love every person and respect others.
