Musician Aaron Razel hosts Ariel Zilber for a new single, based on the lyrics of Rabbi Yitzhak Ginsburg. The new song, “Osios Milamdos Emunah” turns the letters of the Lashon Kodesh into a spiritual path for the children of Israel.
The letters of Lashon Kodesh are called “Letters of the Torah” in the Zohar. From the moment a child gets a grip on them, even before he can read whole words or verses, he begins to grasp something of the depth of the Torah itself. The letters are in fact the child’s first gateways into the Jewish world.
The inspiration for the song comes from the opening of the midrash “Osios D’Rabbi Akiva” where the guidance given to a child by the letter “Alef” appears: “Emes Lamad Picha-Truth has taught your mouth.” This line of thought led Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburg to formulate, based on the sources and spirit of Chassidus, a series of similar advice and instructions based on the names of the other letters of the alphabet. For example, the letter “Beit” tells a child to “Bakesh Hashem Tamid- always seek Hashem,” the letter “Gimal” instructs him to “Gemol Yehudi Mitov Libcha-Reward a Jew from the goodness of your heart,” and so on.
Rabbi Ginsburg’s educational and Chassidic idea did not remain on the page. In order to make these profound messages accessible to the younger generation, the special text was entrusted to the faithful hands of Aaron Razel, who composed and arranged the work out of a desire to create a melody that would be easily absorbed and would enter hearts. To give the song its unique and authorial tone, Razel joined the veteran musician Ariel Zilber at the microphone stand. The two’s joint duet turned the list of spiritual advice into a rhythmic, innocent, and joyful musical celebration.
Aaron Razel says about composing the song: “When I was exposed to Rabbi Ginzburg’s words, I immediately felt that there was a melody here that wanted to come out. The letters are not just a technical tool for writing, they contain a supreme holiness and real life forces. The melody tried to capture the innocence of the child looking at the “Alef-Beit” for the first time, and at the same time the Hasidic depth hidden in each letter. When I worked on the performance, it was clear to me that Ariel Zilber‘s unique and warm voice was the perfect match for this song. Ariel brings with him a simplicity and interiority that touches straight to the heart, and I hope that this melody will enter homes and schools and become part of the soundtrack of our children’s childhoods.”
